It is the goal of Hallahan’s Business and Technology Department to prepare the students for the intellectual challenges of a technological society. Stressing personal efficiency and developing required skills and knowledge will prepare the students for the challenges of the professional business market or for future academic goals. It is the Department’s goal to guide each student to attain her full Christian potential in her chosen career.

602 Technology Explorations I

In this semester long courses, students will use technology as they demonstrate understanding of the basic computer protocols of their school. Students will develop effective communications skill in the use of electronic messaging technologies, will incorporate, identify, and demonstrate effective communications via the Internet. Students will use tools of the twenty-first century student to develop, publish, and collaborate on business, and research—based online documents and will develop presentations using online formats. Students will demonstrate understanding of MLA and APA formatting for research papers. Ethical practices with technology will be the focus of discussions.

661 Personal Finance

This academic course will assist students in choosing careers through the utillization of web quests for areer choices, interviews, understanding payroll, money management, goods and services, shopping decisions, redit/debit, mortgages, financial planning, banking investments, stock market portfolio, record keeping, consumer rights and laws, auto and other insurances, and consumer assertiveness.

665 Orientation to Healthcare

Orientation to Healthcare in the 21st century will include moral instruction regarding the growth of hospital systems/community programs, epidemics/pandemics, formalized healthcare, basic medical terminology, managed care, formulation of a National Healthcare plan, HIPPA laws, ICD-(/CPT electronic billing and coding, healthcare careers/professions and evaluation case studies.

673 Small Business Management/Entrepeneurship

The student will be introduced to our economic system of free enterprise while gaining new insights into the different roles of business, government, management, labor and consumers within the system. Topics will include:economics, business organization (corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorship), international business, social and ethical issues, savings and investment, credit, banking and more as it pertains to the small business owner. Accounting software for the small business will be introduced (Quick Books.) Guest speakers will be scheduled and application will be made to Junior Achievement for a business person from the corporate world (here in Philadelphia) to regularly visit our class to help the students learn how to run a “real” business.

681 Advanced Computer Explorations

This course explores current applications involving advanced Microsoft Word aplications, highly-detailed Power Point competencies, creative Publisher menus and designs, and SAP innovative business software, Web Page Introduction and Publishing. Laptop and Smart Board orientation, extensive graphic design, and basic Access databases. These advanced skills are valuable for today’s business woman. Each eligible student should enroll in this level course to further develop an independent working knowledge of application skills and management ability.

682 Technology Explorations II

This course is for both Academic and Business students who have had Technology Explorations I. The student will learn Microsoft Office softward. The use of the internet and the use of proper search engines are explored. Students critically analyze the internet for accuracy, relevance, and purpose.

Web Design/Publisher

Design/Publisher will include creation of advance publications, travel brochures, valid research, graphics, formatting, advertisements. Creation of storybook, awards, genealogy research for website, and extensive website creation.
