Hallahan Day is a beloved event that takes place at the end of October! It has been a tradition since at least the 1950s! The purpose of this day is to celebrate the sisterhood and friendships shared by “the Girls of the Hallahan High”!
- Every year, freshmen are assigned “Big Sisters” in the junior class. The Big Sisters welcome and mentor their Little Sisters, who are the newest members of our school family. Students move up with their sisters: sophomores and seniors maintain the Big & Little Sister bond. On Hallahan Day, the juniors invite the freshmen to the Big and Little Sister Breakfast where an overabundance of cakes, muffins and pastries sweetens everyone up!
- On the morning of Hallahan Day, students mingle and celebrate with their Big and Little Sisters. Typically, they exchange simple tokens of appreciation (candy, flowers, ribbons, stuffed animals or HH items). The excitement can be felt as soon as you walk into the building on this momentous day! And, get your cameras ready because many pictures are taken of friends, classmates and, of course, Sisters!
- It is a tradition for the Senior Class to write, rehearse and – on this special day – perform the Hallahan Day Show! This good-natured show features the entire senior class singing and dancing their hearts out! Freshmen, sophomores and juniors all see the show in school on Hallahan Day.
- An evening performance of the Hallahan Day Show is performed for family, friends and Alumnae. Tickets for this show must be purchased in advance in the Tuition Office.
School Rings & Ring Mass
Students have the privilege of ordering a class ring in the junior year. Students may select design features to personalize their rings, however, the stone and school seal are traditionally preset on every Hallahan ring. A Josten’s representative will visit Hallahan in the fall to take orders and deposits. Balances for rings may be paid to Hallahan through the Tuition Office. All members of the junior class are encouraged to attend and participate in the Ring Mass. The Ring Mass is held in early spring at the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul. Parents, family and friends are invited to join the juniors on this special night. Many traditions surround the presentation and “turning” of the school ring! (Note: Students must be up-to-date on tuition, fees and have fully paid for the ring in order to receive the ring at the Mass. Only official Hallahan High School class rings ordered through the school will be presented at the Mass.)
The Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Ceremony take place at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on the Parkway. Traditionally, Hallahan is always the first of the Archdiocesan High Schools to graduate each year! The setting at the Cathedral make this momentous day even more glorious and reverent! (Note: Each graduate receives a designated number of tickets;; no one is admitted without a ticket. Each member of the senior class will pay a Graduation Fee to cover the cost of caps & gowns, programs, musicians, rentals, etc. This fee must be paid in the Tuition Office in the fall. In the spring, each senior who is eligible will receive a Graduation Packet that includes the academic attire, graduation announcements and tickets.)
