Clubs & Organizations:
Student Council
Students who meet discipline and academic standards are invited to run:
elections are held each year. Members can be identified by their blue ribbons which are worn to
remind all of the Student Council oath. They must go beyond expectations in offering service to Hallahan.
National Honor Society
Invitations to this organization are granted to Juniors and Seniors who have exemplary academic records.
In addition to maintaining the academic integrity, NHS members are called to give service to the school
and community.
Honor Societies
Induction is granted to students who meet and exceed academic requirements in the study of that area.
Other Honor Societies include: Sociedad Honoaria Hispanica, Spanish Honor Society; Societe Honoraire
de Francais, French Honor Society; Tri-M Music Honor Society; Mu Alpha Theta, Math Honor Society;
Quill and Scroll, Journalism Honor Society
Homeroom Representative
Duties include: taking notes of announcements made during HTV in the homeroom notebook, assisting with
homeroom functions when a substitute teacher is present, helping moderator to distribute and collect
paperwork and forms, and may be called on to assist with attendance or uniform inspection if necessary.
Representatives are elected by the homeroom.
Activities Representatives
A representative is chosen from each homeroom to act as a direct liaison between the Student Affairs
Office and the homeroom. Duties include: daily collection of mail from the sectionÕs mailbox in the
Student Affairs Office, assisting with dance and activity planning, and attending meetings.
Mathletes
members practice for and compete in meets at which their mathematical skills are tested against teams
from other high schools. Competitions include individual and group events.
African American Student Association
seeks to promote awareness and pride for all cultures. While focusing on African American heritage,
events are planned to educate and celebrate.
ASPIRA
This national organization promotes achievement academically, socially and personally for its members.
With Hispanic origins, this group strives to propel its members past societal boundaries.
Puerto Rican Dancers
Each year, this group performs in the Philadelphia Puerto Rican Parade in September that follows the
Puerto Rican Festival Mass at the Cathedral Basilica. Auditions are held in the spring.
Spanish Club
enhancing knowledge of the Spanish culture beyond the Spanish language classroom through projects,
field trips and food.
Spirit Club
willing to show their Hallahan pride & spirit, members of this club find ways to energize daily
life at Hallahan.
Kairos Leaders
Select Seniors are invited to be Kairos leaders after attending the powerful 4-day Kairos Retreat
during their Junior year. After careful preparation and prayer, these students minister to their peers
and lead them to experience ÒGodÕs TimeÓ at Kairos retreats.
C.S.C. (Community Service Corps)
participate in many projects including visits to Assisi House, food drives, soup kitchens, Broad Street
Run, Aids for Friends, and many other outreach programs.
S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions)
this group meets to discuss destructive behaviors. With the goal of educating and persuading
their peers away from such behaviors, SADD members orchestrate the Prom Promise & Anti-Smoking campaigns.
Ambassadors
help with recruitment efforts such as Eighth Grade Day, Grade School visits, High School Nights and Open Houses.
Chastity & Pro-Life Club
Through group discussions, guest speakers, awareness projects, bracelet making, and baby-food drives, members
put their beliefs into action.
The Handmaids of Mary
Celebrating their devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, group members meet weekly to pray and share
their experiences.
Dramatics
Each Spring a musical production entertains audiences in true theatric style. Professional directors,
sound and stage crews, choreographers, costume & set-designers and musicians collaborate to enhance
the students' performance.
Stage Crew
work to coordinate scenery changes, lighting cues and sound production.
Hallahan Day Show
Each year, members of the Senior Class work together to write, plan, practice and perform the
beloved Hallahan Day Show.
Concert Band
In conjunction with daily music lessons, the band practices under careful direction and performs
at school liturgies, events & 2 major concerts.
Liturgical Ensemble/Chorus
From traditional liturgical hymns to contemporary gospel songs, this talented group brings a
prayerful power to Hallahan liturgy. They also perform at the Christmas and Spring concerts
each year.
Liturgical Dancers
With delicate and reverent choreography, dancers add powerful spiritual movement to liturgical tunes.
HTV (Television)
Every morning, there is an HTV broadcast. Students can work behind the camera or as
anchor-women to produce this important news show
Sand Script (Newspaper)
Student reporters write and edit quality articles for the school newspaper.
Silver Sands (Yearbook)
Earning medals from the Pennsylvania Student Press and Columbia Scholastic Press Associations, the
Hallahan Yearbook is a first-rate publication. Students learn basic design and layout concepts, write
and edit text, select and crop pictures and also, promote and sell the book.
Hourglass (Literary Magazine)
The magazine contains quality student writing and poetry in addition to student
artwork. Poets, editors and artists work together with faculty moderators to produce this truly artistic
and inspiring project.
