From the Principal’s Desk
Thank you for visiting the Hallahan website. John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School has a long and rich tradition of educating young women. Our Mission statement encompasses all that we believe is possible for the young women of the 21stcentury, helping in the formation of young women of faith, purpose and vision.
The four hundred students currently enrolled at Hallahan are a diverse group. They have come from more than seventy schools in the five county Philadelphia region with a small number from Delaware and New Jersey. They are diverse economically, ethnically, racially and even religiously and that is what makes Hallahan a wonderful melting pot. Hallahan mirrors the diversity that is the United States.
Hallahan is a school which has blended its rich history with an outlook to the future. Our goal is to have every Hallahan student achieve her finest measure. Hallahan students are able to enroll in eleven different Advanced Placement classes. Five of the classes are offered by Hallahan teachers on campus. The remainder are offered through a partnership with JVLA, a Jesuit online program. Students still spend their days on campus but attend these classes virtually. Through the partnership with JVLA students are also able to enroll in courses that Hallahan might not be able to offer due to the limited number of subscribing students. These classes include Digital Photography, Environmental Science, Italian, C++ Programming and more.
Hallahan is also proud of its extra-curricular and sports programs. Students are encouraged to seek their passion, find a moderator and start a club. Our sports teams are growing stronger every year and this year the Golf Team won the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship. All of our programs at Hallahan are built on a foundation of Faith. And, as such, we include many spiritual programs for our students, from daily Masses, to lunchtime prayer groups to annual retreats. We are foundationally a Catholic Community.
Hallahan also Professional Learning Community (PLC) and to that every teacher has membership in two or more professional groups within the school. Teachers are continually learning new strategies and techniques to improve their own practice and improve student learning. More than 60% of the Hallahan faculty have advanced degrees.
The founder of Hallahan, Mary McMichan, was a forward thinking woman for the time. We strive to continue her tradition of forward thinking as we prepare our students for the future. We encourage you to call and arrange a visit for your daughter.
